Universal Pictures has hired writer David Guggenheim to return to pen the sequel to Safe House, the action thriller that starred Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington.
Although it was expected to open at the top of the box office with a $30 million weekend haul, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance finished in third place, grossing an estimated $22 million — 52 percent less than the first film.
Familiar story elements in Safe House don’t stop stars Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds from tearing it up in this fun, if ultimately forgettable, spy thriller from director Daniel Espinosa.
Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, stars of the AMC crime drama, have landed parts in the post-apocalyptic horror movie World War Z and the thriller Safe House, respectively.
As if starring in two high profile comic book properties in Green Lantern and Deadpool (not to mention the developing R.I.P.D.) wasn’t already enough, Reynolds is looking to get even busier with a co-starring role opposite Denzel Washington.
